It is unfortunate that we must be so leery about services offered via the Internet. There are a lot of businesses out there just ready and waiting to separate you from your hard earned money and give you virtually nothing in return.
When approaching ANY debt solutions type of business, it is VERY important for you to understand the procedures that will be used. It is also just as important to know the facts about the company, company history and character of their service. It is also very important to know what type of legal representation they have available for you should things turn sour and a creditor attempt to file suit against you.
We recommend that you speak with a licensed attorney BEFORE committing yourself to any debt assistance program. Many businesses have been recognized as being a SCAM by the U.S. Government. To view a message from the Treasury Department concerning SCAMS please click here.
When deciding on a Debt Assistance company, there are several things to look for to determine whether or not that company is right for you and is offering you a good service.
PROS
- Company legally reduces your debt. There is no such thing as "Debt Elimination".
- Company has attorneys ready to assist should you get sued. Law suits may arise during ANY type of "Debt Assistance" to include Settlements and Consolidations.
- Company has support from licensed attorneys. Very rarely would attorneys put their bar numbers at risk by supporting a SCAM.
- Company does not ask you to do anything that maybe legally questionable.
CONS
Things To Watch Out For!
- Company has a "shady" record.
- Company asks you to "hide" your assets. If you have a judgment against you, this may be illegal in some states. Please consult an attorney.
- Company offers to complete your paperwork but tells you to provide your own attorney. In most states attorneys cannot negotiate fees with non-attorneys. This type of situation can become very expensive for you. Again, please consult an attorney concerning that type of situation.
- If the company tries to offer you a certificate such as a "Bond For Discharge of Debt", "Due Bill" or "Redemption Certificate", chances are it is a SCAM.
- In ANY case, a simple consultation with a licensed attorney can assist you in protecting yourself and making the right choice.
- If they tell you they can eliminate your debts in an arbitration, it is a SCAM.
